City Guard Elite

Many of the current number of city guardsmen and women are holdouts from the time that Alexander Caldwell forced Sigmund Brand from dictator's lofty position and executed his men for treason. The city guard are those men and women of the Duke Caldwell's elites who elected to stay behind and ensure that order was maintained in the streets during those trying times.

While the Night Watch and the City Guard are part of a singular unit, they each have their own commanding officers and ranking structure. The Captain of Seedorf's guard is Devon Janson, and the group currently has their barracks located in the motte and bailey near the edge of town, and routinely patrol in two, three, sometimes four-man patrols.

City Guardsmen are well trained in mounted combat, and are each assigned a horse once training has been completed. These are not war horses, these are sleek racers bred for speed to assist in chasing down their quarry that might be able to otherwise evade and elude them.

Rank Heirarchy and Insignias

The rank insignias are worn either as a pin on the collar of the uniform, or a badge worn on the belt, and must be displayed at all times when on duty.

Captain - Gold symbol of the Church, twin swords crossed behind, and three stars. This ranking is in charge of the city guard garrison.

Lieutenant - Gold symbol of the Church, twin swords crossed behind, and two stars. Spell Lieutenant has twin swirls rather than swords. This ranking is in charge of all lower ranks, reports to the Captain.

Sergeant - Gold symbol of the Church, twin swords crossed behind, and one star. Spell Sergeant has twin swirls rather than swords. This ranking is in charge of all lower ranks, reports to Lieutenant and Captain.

Corporal - Gold symbol of the Church, twin swords crossed behind, no stars. Spell Corporal has twin swirls rather than swords. This ranking is in charge of all lower ranks except Snipers. Reports to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain.

Sniper - Gold symbol of the church, twin arrows crossed behind, no stars. This ranking has no command over lower ranks, but equates to a Corporal position, and reports to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. This ranking is unmounted, and not issued a horse.

Private - Silver symbol of the church, twin swords crossed behind. Privates, Spellcasters, Stablemasters, and Medics report to all above ranks except Snipers, and can issue commands to Recruits.

Spellcaster - Silver symbol of the church, twin swirls crossed behind.

Stablemaster - Silver symbol of the Church, one sword crossed behind.

Medic - Silver symbol of the Church, a medical cross behind.

Recruit - Silver symbol of the Church. Lowest ranking position. This is usually unfilled when the guard is operating at full capacity, as recruits are usually found positions swiftly after a probationary period and training.

Uniform

The city guards' uniform is fairly simple. A dark blue jacket and breeches with gold trim, fitted over a suit of light chainmail and the padding beneath, and a pair of riding boots. There has currently been only one exception in the way of female guards wearing skirts, and that is granted to the current Lieutenant, who does not ride a horse on patrol.

City Guards do not use conventional bladed weapons. Instead they are issued shashkas, which have been found to be much more easily wielded while on horseback. The exception is the Sniper division, which are unmounted, and use either heavy crossbows or longbows, for long range cover and support. While they are issued the standard elite shashka, they can elect not to wear them while on duty.
